Picnic

Please tell me that I’m not the only one!

The only one that has bought that super cute material lined picnic basket that you most likely got at TJ Max. You know the one, the material that lines the basket is most likely a gingham patterned material or a navy and white striped material.

You open the adorable material lined wicker basket to find the top that has some leather straps holding 4 plastic plates, a place to roll up some matching cloth napkins and some awkwardly shaped forks. And if you got the BIG picnic basket you might even get a matching thermos to match.

Envisioned is a blanket laid out on some green field that has tall grass waving in the wind. A nice cool breeze to keep the flys away and blue skies as far as you can see! You’ve been driving down this two lane highway with the top down and the wind blowing your hair ever so perfectly. So you just stop at this random place on the side of the road and take out the picnic you have prepared and sit eating a lovely picnic as you watch the time pass leisurely away for the rest of the afternoon!

Is that what you have pictured when you think about having a picnic? Yes, me too! But some how it doesn’t really happen that way.

Let me know if this sounds more like what happens … your husband is determined to drag you and the four kids out to a picnic. You load up in the SUV, you have forgotten the basket and you didn’t have any bread to make sandwiches anyway. So you stop by the convenient store, everyone orders their favorite thing out of the hot box and their favorite flavored icy! You pile back into the SUV, go to the park where he had a picnic when he was a kid. To a picnic table that has splinters and was probably their when he was a kid. It’s not what you had imagined, but the kids will have the best memories of their picnic anyway!

However you picnic, there is no right way to do it, the only wrong way to do it is to not do it at all.

So grab that super cute picnic basket or pile in the SUV and get a bag of chicken strips for everyone and go on a picnic!
